Over the course of a few years I’ve come to the stunningly simple realization that the rest of the world doesn’t see things the way I do. I don’t mean that in any deep philosophical way, I just mean that when I look at any single physical object, think of a word, or consider a concept or situation I look at in a completely unique manner and I know for sure that no one else on the globe is capable of looking at it like I just did.
At some level, if not completely, you are the exact same as me in that aspect as well. Just like I come to a new situation and rely on my experiences, intuition, and intellect when I try to consider the opportunity you do the same thing. We each bring our own set of filters to life. Our filters can also change for the better or for the worse depending on our choices. Remember that when you open your mouth or sit down to write you may be under the huge assumption that others “get” where you are coming from.
You are completely wrong.
How could they understand your point of view? They aren’t you, they’ve only lived through some similarities, if any, and they don’t even have the exact same chemical soup in their brain that affects their reasoning and thought. Don’t ever assume something so dangerous again if you can help it.
In conversation we often use figures of speech like “You know what I mean?” and other Colloquialisms which is perfectly normal and acceptable. We often have to reference the familiar in order to make a connection to those we are trying to communicate with. Just don’t trick yourself into thinking these Colloquialisms are truths of any kind. They don’t necessarily know what you mean at all.
Now that I’ve gotten this huge explanation out of the way we can actually get to the purpose of this page. I’d like to NOT assume you know what I mean, so with that in mind I’m going to begin putting together a few resources here for you that I hope will make you more successful. Here they are:
