Is your password secure? This is an important question during a time when it seems like everything is getting hacked. Close attention should be paid to your password security. Whenever possible you should be choosing to use a password generation tool to generate long string passwords that look like “65IwpyTw6^B2g9$l51UyINmhvR9″ this.
I have been using a browser plugin called Lastpass to manage my passwords and I would still recommend it today to anyone who needs secure password management.
Is Lastpass secure? Yes and no. If you plan on sharing passwords, please be aware that you are simply placing a small obstacle in the way of the user finding your real password if you choose this option:
![]()
With a simple Firefox Plugin called Unhide Passwords you can copy the password field of a shared password you have auto-filled and you then have the full string that the user shared with you. Hopefully Lastpass will release something new that could prevent this simple hack from being available.
With that said, overall I’ve found Lastpass to be a secure and reliable tool, but common sense proves to be true when it comes to sharing. If you share something even in an “secret” format as they claim in the share settings, it can be uncovered. Personally I think that a clearer disclaimer should be placed in this screen of the share settings, not just this view:

Remember, if you plan on sharing passwords with Lastpass then just be aware of the fact that they can be quickly discovered even if they are in “secret” mode.
